Walking the World in Wonder, A Children’s Introduction to Herbs

In this class we will learn about the cycles of the year and the most common herbs, how to identify and use 67 herbs. In this class designed for children 7 and up, we will cover the practical, medicinal and magical uses of each herb. Using fun easy-to-follow activities we will teach children basic herbal skills “...and invite them to make a sunflower seed mosaic, sew a catnip-filled mouse, and dig for Jerusalem artichoke roots. The book also includes simple recipes that children can use, with adult supervision, to treat minor ailments-peppermint tea to soothe a troubled tummy or plantain slave to heal a scraped knee.”

Making Musical Instruments

Ever realized that with household and recyclable objects at home, kids can make music?  Learn rhythm, pitch, the basic ideas behind the construction of several groups of instruments.  Get your friends together and learn the part your instrument plays in your own garage band!  We’ll cover the science of sound, how math plays an important role in instruments as well as music and last but not least, how much fun making and playing simple musical instruments can be.

Physics Fun

Find physics in application in everything!  See how you can put physics to work for you.  Easy hands on projects are fun with physics theories presented for each project.  Don’t worry, these projects aren’t your snoring, boring science teacher’s version of science.  These projects are actually fun and you’ll find it hard to believe that this is really physics.  This summer course also plays an important role in showing middle and senior high school students that physics can be done by kids who aren’t necessarily science majors and by kids who are younger than most schools find it appropriate to introduce the topic.
