Algebra 1

Welcome to Algebra I.  In Algebra I we will discover the first mathematical challenge of Albert Einstein.  Algebra troubled Einstein until his father made it into a game, a mystery game where you were on a quest to find the ever elusive "X".  We hope we can make algebra as much of a challenge and joy as it eventually was to Einstein.   Lessons will be taught on an assignment basis.

In Algebra I we will cover the following topics:

1. Number Systems

2. Powers and Roots

3. Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities

4. Quadratic Equations

5. Graphing

6. Conics Sections

Prerequisites:  Pre-Algebra

Required materials:  Textbook( Intermediate Algebra, ISBN:  0-07-060839-3), graph paper, ruler, calculator with exponential functions.

Algebra 2

In Algebra II build on and extend the skills covered in Algebra I.  There will not be a specified text but references for additional reading could be recommended.  Lessons will be taught on an assignment basis.

In Algebra II we will cover the following topics:

1. Functions

2. Polynomial Functions

3. Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

4. Linear Algebra

5. Sequences and Series

6. Binomial Theorem

Required materials:  Textbook( tbd by 12/30/01), graph paper, ruler, calculator with exponential functions.
