A text will not be needed for this class. Students will be give a mock profession and salary. A lifestyle and list of financial obligations will also be given. It will be the job of the student to budget and organize their own finances for one semester. Lessons learned this term will be check writing, budgeting, aspects of a paycheck including taxes, social security and retirement, stocks, college payment options, medical expenses and the common cost of the living. It is suggested that students buy a notebook or ledger for this class so as to keep track of their assignments. Via email, mock surprises like a emergency car repairs, the chance to go on a big trip with friends and other real life situations will arise. Ledgers or notebooks will be needed to see if the student can budget the events. A report and outcome will be required monthly for each student. |
