Do you offer
a cover school for my area?
Yes! GMCA offers a cover school for those needing it under our church.
This cover school applies in most areas.
We have
suggested to parents that if their state authorities ask about GMCA, the
best response is that you as the parent are reasonably seeking an education
for your child that best reflects your religious faith and values.
(The First Amendment is a good thing to include in your explanation.)
TENNESSEE:
We
do have students enrolled from the state of Tennessee. We are not
accredited with that state, however, we have had no negative contacts from
Tennessee state authorities, even though we have requested and received
school records.
IMPORTANT:
As a
matter of common sense, we encourage and expect all parents to be familiar
with their state's laws covering homeschooling and parochial schools.
A good resource is the
NHEN website.
When does the school year start?
This
year, GMCA starts its school year on Monday, August 27th, 2007.
What if I want to start my school year
after this date? Is this possible?
You
can start after this date, but you will have to make private arrangements
with each middle and high school instructor whose class your child is
taking, as they have often scheduled their classes very carefully in order
to allow time for testing, papers, etc. Your user permissions will be
active for 10 calendar months from date of enrollment.
If I don't need a cover/umbrella school, do I still
have to pay the $70/$200 (depending upon program enrolled) fee for grade school,
and additional fees for Jr. High and High School?
Yes. The reason for this is
because the teachers still are available in a teaching capacity to each
student whether they are under the cover/umbrella school or not. Our
teachers deserve compensation for their time and availability. We also
require that middle and senior high students be enrolled for a minimum of 30
weeks before we are able to vouch for their academic achievements.
What's an umbrella school?
Look here for more
information on GMCA's umbrella school.
I can't afford to pay for my middle/senior
high school student all at once. Do you offer financing?
No.
Due to problems encountered in past years, we have come to the
decision that financing is not a workable situation. We apologize for
any hardship this may cause responsible individuals, but we must uphold the
same policy for everyone.
I'm having problems making ends meet, but I
really like what I've seen here and would like the opportunity to enroll my
child. Do you offer a scholarship program or discounts for multiple
children being enrolled at the same time?
No.
Our reasons are
included here:
Goddess Moon Circles
Academy operates on a shoestring budget. We only receive a very small
portion of total fees to help offset our costs, which include web hosting,
site maintenance, office expenses, etc. For Elementary level students,
GMCA and the instructor split the enrollment on a 50/50 basis. For Middle
and High School students, the $50 for each child's enrollment fee is all our
administration receives.
Can I buy
just the books or subjects I wish or is this curriculum a package?
Yes, you can purchase just the PreK through 6th
grade curriculum without teacher involvement. The cost is the same as
if you were engaging the instructor's services. You will also access
the curriculum through the website. The total cost for the framework curriculum
for grades PreK through 6th grade is only $70.00. The total cost of the
full curriculum for grades PreK through 6th grade is only $200.00. Bound copies are
not available at this time.
The middle and high
school individual class curricula may also be purchased separately.
There is no registration fee, but each individual class curricula is $145.00.
Keep in mind that
there is no teacher support given with curriculum-only
purchases, and you (not Goddess Moon Circles Academy) are responsible for
any interaction with your local educational authorities.
Please contact the individual instructor to arrange for
purchase. The instructor will then contact GMCA's technical support
department to arrange site permissions.
What about
your teachers?
Our teachers have
either homeschooled or had experience teaching children for a minimum of
nine years.
All our teachers are ordained Pagan clergy.
What is your refund policy?
It is not in our policy to provide refunds, as upon
enrollment, you are given full access to our private curriculum for the
grade in which you have enrolled for the school year.
How
does the Elementary Curriculum work?
The curriculum we offer is above the National
Standard. However, our Elementary Curriculum is designed more along
homeschooling lines. You will receive access to our curriculum pages
where you will find our instructor-designed materials, but you are
encouraged to supplement coursework with whatever you deem appropriate.
For such a low enrollment cost, we cannot
possibly provide an individualized curriculum for every student. If
your child does work at higher or lower than enrolled grade level, please
feel free to substitute the appropriate material.
If you believe our prices are too high, we welcome you to check out the average cost of
a full homeschooling curriculum at Oak
Meadow School and Clonlara.
What is the
difference between your Full and Framework curricula?
Because, when we first started, many parents who
met us at our scheduled meetings (in person), indicated strongly that they
had no desire to purchase any more textbooks than were absolutely necessary.
They indicated they preferred the free web-based material. Thus, our
curricula were written that way to make it as affordable as possible.
You are, of course, welcome to supplement your child's studies with whatever
material you wish.
We have recently begun offering a full curriculum for the
elementary school grades for only $200.00. If you are looking for a
curriculum that would likely not require supplementation, we recommend you
enroll in this option.
How will I access my
particular curriculum?
You will be given individual permissions to
access the curriculum you have purchased. Once you have enrolled, you
will receive an email for each class in which your child is enrolled,
indicating where you can find your particular class information. If
you have trouble accessing your curriculum, please
email us and we will help you.
Do your teachers test
students on what they have learned?
Some teachers do, and some teachers don't.
It all depends upon the subject matter. For example, Arithmetic and
Physics would require some type of testing to see what the student has
grasped. However, poetry, English, and other subjects aren't
necessarily tested for factual content. In many cases, upper class
homework gives a good indication to the instructor of what has been learned.
Parents wishing our school to keep records and provide report
cards are required to send in the completed work via email on a weekly
basis, or parents may grade the work themselves and send in the results. We
will send you a form on which you will enter daily hours that will indicate
each subject. Space for supplementary classes will be provided.
This chart is a requirement for anyone requiring recordkeeping, currently,
or in future situations. The form is required to be turned in on a
monthly basis. This is to be snailmailed to Goddess Moon Circles
Academy.
What about annual testing?
We do not offer annual testing services.
If you want your child to be tested or if your state requires testing of
all students, regardless of type of school enrollment (public,
nonpublic, parochial), you should enquire of your local school
district for a listing of approved testers in your area.
Do I have to sign
a Statement of Faith? I'm not a Pagan, but am still very interested in
your curriculum.
Certainly not! You don't even have to be
Pagan to utilize our services. Your faith is your own business, and
none of ours. Just realize that there will be a Pagan slant to the
educational materials.
