Novels: This year's reading will be the foundation for
our English assignments. Writing, analysis, spelling, vocabulary and
comprehension will all come from our novels. Parents are asked to pick up
these paperback books for their children early in the year so that children do
not miss out on any assignments.
We'll be reading: "Witch Child" by Celia Rees, "From the
Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler" by E. L. Konigsburg, and "A Wrinkle in
Time" by Madeleine L'Engle.

Fourth Grade
Social Studies American History-1600s-1800s In social studies the
fourth graders learn about the colonization of the New World, and the
development of American society from that time till the early 1800's.
The book WitchChild is used to help make that material more interesting and
accessible.
Science will consist of basic and easy experiments and will
focus on long term observation and record-keeping. Researching topics on
the web will be a valuable adjunct to the Science curriculum.
Finally, if your child wants to work ahead, by all means,
allow them to do so. Holding your child back can make them frustrated and
ultimately unwilling to work. This is one of the reasons why the Public
School model just doesn't work for gifted kids.
Eager to get started,
