Merry Meet!  Welcome parents and children to your second grade class.

 Second grade sees our children through a time when foundations are set and a focus on detail comes into play in all subjects.

Semester 1

Reading: children will not only be introduced to early, young reader classics, they will also derive their writing projects and assignments from their reading.  The books novels for the first semester are:

Treasure Island (the Bull's-eye Young readers edition)

Robin Hood (the Bulls-eye Young reader's edition)

Spelling is thematic and is from my own design of weekly worksheets and projects.  Emphasis not only in spelling but also parts of speech can be found here.

Math is followed at a student lead pace using the book McGraw Hill Spectrum Math Second Grade.  Parents are encouraged to let their children take the pre-test of each chapter.  If 90% or better is earned, the student is allowed to skip the chapter and move on to new material.

Science is merged with art in the first semester where children are introduced to projects in Chromatography and tool making.  Later, units in space and astronomy are explored. 

Fine Arts: A section pertaining to poetry, music and  art will be included and offer children glimpses into other cultures, ways of life and religions.
